Many Chicagoans will remember walking downtown or riding the El last summer and seeing massive destruction and explosions from the set of the Transformers 3 movie.

All the work can now be seen in the first trailer released by Paramount Pictures.

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, directed by Michael Bay, brings back Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky as he continues to help the Autobot family in fighting to save the world against the Decepticons.

Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley plays Carly, Witwicky's love interest whom he has to save throughout the trailer.

The trailer opens with astronauts discovering a Cybertonian spacecraft hidden on the Moon's surface.  The Autobots learn of it and must beat the Decepticons to reach the craft first and move a head in the Transformers' final war.

This third epic battle puts the city of Chicago under siege, taking down the city's major land marks and tearing up most of downtown.

Other major stars gracing the movie screen include Leonard Nimoy (voice of Sentinel Prime), John Malkovich (Bruce), Patrick Dempsey (Dylan), and Tyrese Gibson (Robert Epps).

The movie will be in theaters July 1.

During filming in Chicago, film director Michael Bay said the Chicago Film Office allowed him to do things in the Windy City that other cities wouldn't have permitted.  He lauded the city's people and its architecture.
