Make Wine Your Friend in 2009

D.O.C. Wine Bars Host Two Winter Wine Tastings

Trust us, wine will be your friend this January, especially big, bold, luscious varietals like syrah, hermitage and port. Learn the ins and outs of winter wines with two tastings taking place at the D.O.C. Wine Bar locations this January.

On Monday, Jan. 12, the Lincoln Park D.O.C. will host "Syrah, Shiraz and Hermitage," a look at 11 different examples of these robust grapes led by wine director Greg Sorrell. You'll taste and discuss the various vintages, such as a 2003 Chateau Trignon Rasteau and a 2005 Slipstream shiraz/grenache blend. The tasting goes from 7-9PM, and tickets are $35.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Lombard outpost of D.O.C. Wine Bar presents "Winter Wine Wonderland," as wine director Tony Burger puts together eight wines appropriate for the season, such as a Ballot-Millot Meursault Rouge and a Grahams 6 Grapes Port. Hearty appetizers including cured meats, cheeses, bruschetta and wild mushroom fritters will be passed. The event, which takes place in the bar's new private tasting lounge, goes from 7-9PM and costs $35 per person.
