Live From Chicago, It's SCTV!

Second City is turning 50 and has an impressive performance list

A veritible who's who of comic geniuses is heading to Chicago to celebrate Second City's 50th birthday.

The comedy theater will host a Chicago reunion show featuring the cast of  “SCTV." Alums Joe Falherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis, Martin Short and Dave Thomas are all on board for the one-night-only Decemeber 11 celebration, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"This is like a high-school reunion with all the good and bad friendships, the love of your life, ex-girl- and boyfriends and the teachers you loved and hated," SCTV co-creator and current Second City proprietor Andrew Alexander told the Trib. "The extra pounds and gray hair. It will be a blast."

Except for Rick Moranis – who joined the SCTV cast in its third season – and the late John Candy, the December anniversary show will feature the entire SCTV cast. Martin Short, who joined the cast in its fourth season, will take Candy’s place.

The stars will perform in two live “SCTV” shows at the Second City’s main stage with various, unnamed special guests.

Rumor has it that Tina Fey and Steve Carell may even make an appearance during the celebration weekend. Other notables who plan to show up include Jim Belushi, Jeff Garlin, Alan Arkin, David Steinberg and Fred Willard.

From the sounds of it, the anniversary weekend’s looking to be milk-out-of-the-nose funny.

Proceeds from the show will benefit Second City Alumni Fund – a non-profit that helps support former Second City performers in need. Tickets are expected to be pricey and though to get once they go on sale.

For once we can be proud of Chicago’s status as the laughing stock of the country.
