Tommy Gun's Garage is a Chicago classic.
Dubbed "Chicago's only original speakeasy dinner theatre," the building is located in the South Loop, Al Capone's old stomping grounds.
As you enter the heavy metal door under the el tracks, you must give Gloves, the doorman, your password before being granted entry. OK, so if you don't know the password, he'll probably let you in anyway, but they give you a password when you RSVP.
The gangland theme carries over to the menu, which offers entrees such as the Kingpin Prime Rib and Frankie's Feast Broiled Pork Chop.
Throughout dinner, flappers dance around you and humorous skits are performed on stage, intermingled with song and dance. Somewhere in the middle of the "South Side Revival," our group was raided by the cops, and I was forced to go up on stage to take a sobriety test with three others.
For the duration of dinner, the servers/actors never dropped character. The restaurant also offers customized experiences for groups, involving characters such as Groucho Marx, Mae West and James Cagney.
The price for dinner and the show ranges between $58 and $68 Tuesday through Sunday.
So go ahead and check it out. Just don't tell 'em I sent ya.
