Watch the Worst Movie in Existence

Plus banned books week, the Vic, and Harry Potter

YOU’RE TEARING ME APART, LISA: Considered by some to be the worst movie in existence, Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room” has gained a cult following for its simplistic plot (Johnny loves Lisa, who’s cheating on him with Mark), horrible line deliveries, various plot holes (one character reveals she has breast cancer and it’s never brought up again), and bizarre characters, like Denny, a college student who at one point wants to watch Johnny and Lisa get it on. Oh yeah, the characters make chicken noises that supposedly influenced the hilarious chicken-noise scenes in “Arrested Development.” Music Box, 3733 N. Southport Ave.; Lakeview. Midnight. $9.25.

GAY PENGUINS AND GOSSIP GIRLS: Nothing makes reading sound as cool as Banned Books Week (thanks, overly concerned parents!), which kicks off at the Bughouse Square. Saturday’s reading includes authors of some of the most banned books in the U.S., like Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” Cecily von Ziegesar’s “Gossip Girls,” and the No. 1 banned book, Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell’s “And Tango Makes Three,” a children’s book about two gay penguins who adopt a baby penguin. 901 N. Clark St. Noon to 2 p.m. Free.

HOT MESS: “Project Runway” season-four winner Christian Siriano will dish out fashion tips at Old Orchard for the Westfield Style Tour. Expect plenty of references to outfits being “fierce” or “a hot tranny mess.” 4999 Old Orchard Center; Skokie. 1 p.m. Free.

CONVENTIONAL WISDOM: Indie-rock band Built To Spill stops by the Vic Theatre to support its upcoming album, “There Is No Enemy,” due out next month. The group has noticeable influences to anything from Bowie to Dinosaur Jr., and frontman Doug Martsch’s catchy guitar hooks have made him something of a modern legend. 3145 N. Sheffield Ave.; Lakeview. 7:30 p.m. $24. All ages.

AH, I BENT MY WAND: Sunday’s the last day to catch Harry Potter: The Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry. On display are various costumes and props from the movies, so now’s the time to study up and blow away all your fellow fan-fiction authors with your accurate descriptions. 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive; Hyde Park. 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. $26 for adults, $19 for children, and $25 for seniors.
