Summer's here, which means you might want to put down that heavy Cabernet or stuffy Scotch and pick up a light, flavorful libation. The following drinking destinations are featuring some seasonal sippers that will help you squeeze every enjoyable drop out of summer.
The stately setting of Seasons Lounge and Bar in the Four Seasons Chicago lightens up for summer with the debut of a Summer Floats cocktail list, which will be available today through Labor Day. The soda fountain float grows up with these flavor-filled concoctions, pairing ice creams and sorbets with alcohol for a decidedly adult treat. Try the "Cosmo Crush," with cranberry sorbet, lemon vodka, Grand Marnier, lime and cranberry juices and 7-Up; the "Mojito Melt Away," with mint ice cream, Orinoco rum, mint leaves, brown sugar, lime juice and 7-Up; or the "Watermelon Splash," with watermelon sorbet, Bacardi Watermelon Rum, Skyy Melon Vodka, pineapple juice and 7-Up. (Each cocktail is $14.)
The welcoming Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen in the northwestern suburb of Crystal Lake is a perfect summertime destination with a sprawling two-tier outdoor deck and a new menu of warm weather libations, which debuts today and is offered throughout the season. Duke's resident mixologist Aaron Andrews puts creative spins on classic cocktails, such as "Duke's Southern Tea," made with Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka, grenadine and lemonade, served in a mason jar ($6); the "Honey Old-Fashioned," with honey-infused Templeton Rye, bitters and cherry and orange juices ($8); and a refreshing white peach sangria ($7).
Potter's Lounge and the Lockwood Lobby Bar, two sophisticated drinking establishments located within the historic Palmer House Hilton in the Loop, have recently unveiled a new summer cocktail menu. Settle into Potter's speakeasy-esque surroundings or the timeless charm of the lobby bar (underneath the property's famed Tiffany chandeliers) to enjoy such creations as "Bohemian Luxury," made with Belvedere Vodka, Chambord, pineapple juice and Chandon Rose; "Pomegranate Orange Crush," a blend of Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka, orange juice and ginger ale; and "Wiskers," with gin, sweet and dry vermouths, Grand Marnier and orange juice. (All cocktails are $12.) In addition, Potter's has introduced nightly bar specials, including sparkling wine flights for $14 on Tuesday, duck drummies from 5-7PM for $7 on Wednesday and bottles of Fat Tire beer for $4 on Thursday.
