Remember back when your high school sweetie broke your heart and you put a cassette mixtape together filled with sweet and sappy songs in an effort to win her back?
OK, maybe we're dating ourselves a bit -- perhaps you downloaded a bunch of sweet and sappy songs and burned a CD for her. No matter which technology you use, the concept is the same -- music is one of the most powerful ways of expressing your feelings, especially when your own words aren't so good.
On Monday, The Hideout will host a Mixtape Variety Show celebrating the release of the book "Cassette From My Ex: Stories and Soundtracks of Lost Loves."
Along with special unnamed musical guest performances, a panel that includes the book's editor, Jason Bitner, will share stories and thoughts on the power of mixtapes.
Illustrator Arthur Jones will also present his personal loss-of-virginity story in the form of a Post-It Note Story.
Hopefully it doesn't stir up too many bad memories and enough time has gone by to mend those Broken Wings.
Monday, Nov. 9, The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, (773)227-4433
