There's a new party in town for the young professional set tired of the typical nightclub and bar atmosphere.

The first Adler After Dark is scheduled for this Thursday, and every third Thursday of the month going forward.

The Adler Planetarium will open its doors to the 21-and-over set from 6-10 p.m., featuring cocktails, appetizers and tunes from DJ D-Rek, all against the backdrop of the Chicago skyline.

Instead of ogling that gal in the corner, save your eyes for the Doane Observatory telescope -- the largest telescope in the Midwest accessible to the public. Other interactive displays will be set up as well, giving you something to do besides just standing around and drinking.

This week's inaugural event is free, but tickets will be $10 in advance for non-members in the future.
