CHECKING IN: If you still haven't been hipped to the Foursquare fad -- it'll happen before you know it. Like Facebook and Twitter before it, it's inevitable. The location-based social networking Web site and mobile application was first introduced at last year's South by Southwest music festival, and to celebrate its one-year anniversary, the "squares" will be meeting up at Lincoln Station tonight, which begs the question whether anyone actually physically talks to each other when they're busy pecking away on their phones? 7 - 9 p.m., 2432 N. Lincoln, RSVP

PUPPETS BEHAVING BADLY: Leave the kids at home for this io Chicago puppet improv show. Nine puppets make up the cast and perform some of the most well-known pieces created or inspired by the iO Theater over the years. Think Crank Yankers and Triumph the Insult Dog on steroids. 8 p.m., 3541 N. Clark St, $5

DANCE ON: The world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater kicks off a six-night run tonight at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University. See for yourself why this group of young black American dancers have inspired and changed the perception of modern dance. 7:30 p.m., 50 E. Congress Parkway, $30 - $85
