Every Dog Has its Day

The first-ever "Dog Day on the Green" festival will host dogs and their owners

Attention all animal lovers: The inaugural "Dog Day on the Green" family festival is set for 10AM-5PM on Sunday, Aug. 2. Presented by Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle, the day-long Fido-focused festivities will treat dogs and their owners to an array of activities, educational events, entertainment and dog-friendly vendors at Soldier Field's outside green area (where doggie "accidents" are no biggie).

The free event  will feature educational seminars with trainers and veterinarians about caring for pets and a kids' corner sponsored by the Anti-Cruelty Society where children can play with dogs in a safe, supervised area. Other activities include a Fido Fashion Show featuring the latest in pup fashion, a dog-and-owner lookalike contest, the Hoops & Hurdles agility course and "Doga," a yoga practice both you and your pooch can enjoy.

"Dog Day on the Green" master of ceremonies Steve Dale, a renowned local pet expert and certified dog and cat behavior consultant, will be available for questions on how to build a healthy relationship with your furry friends, and an array of local vendors catering to the canine community will be at the festival for those inevitable impulse buys. Representatives from the City Clerk's Office will also be on hand to register dogs on site.
