Mike Zima is 1 of 249 semi-finalists trying to win the coveted social media internship with Charlie Sheen.

Mike Zima is getting used to this winning thing.

The Columbia College student is one step closer to landing an internship with Charlie Sheen after being notified Monday that he's made it to the next round.

Zima is now one of 50 applicants left for the gig, a competition that started with more than 81,000.

"I was waiting all day waiting for the email, and when I got it, it was great. I did the whole hop, skip singing in the rain bit," Zima said.

The previous round of applicants were judged by officials at internships.com, but now Charlie Sheen's people will be doing the choosing.

Even though Sheen has taken a lot of hits since he started his live tour, Zima looks at it as an opportunity to help the controversial actor with his brand management.

"I don't think his popularity has died off. It's in transition, and whoever's doing his social media isn't using it quickly enough to remedy when things go wrong," Zima says.

The 24-year-old is developing an app that he says will help Sheen aggregate all his fans and react to what they're saying about him.

And while he's waiting to see what the next step will be in the competition, Zima is raising awareness by releasing another viral video for a bash at Spybar this month.

"I like my chances a lot. I'm just waiting to see what happens next," Zima says.

The paid internship will last eight weeks and, according to the description, the intern will "work closely with Charlie Sheen in leveraging his social network."

The other two Illinois residents trying for Sheen internships did not make to through to the top 50.
