Tulips are beautiful, whether they're covered with snow or not.
The artist formerly known as Prince (or is he known as Prince again? We can't keep up.) once wisely said, ''Sometimes it snows in April.'' Boy, he really wasn't kidding, was he?
This is a real slap in the face, Mother Nature, you evil vixen, you. We Chicagoans know better than to get our hopes up around Groundhog Day, and we even hold our collective breaths during the entire month of March, knowing full well that we could get 60 degree temps one day and a blizzard the next.
But is it so unfair for us to hope beyond hope that spring would actually be here in APRIL? At some point you've got to at least *pretend* that it's spring. That's what the city is doing along the Magnificent Mile where tulips will bloom from April 1 through May 31 (provided the snow and ice don't murder them) as part of the ''City Beautiful'' movement.
Enjoy public works of art and architecture amidst the tulip beds on Michigan Avenue. In honor of the celebration, hotels, restaurants and shops along the Mag Mile will be offering special sales and offers, and there are several tulip-themed activities planned throughout the spring, like walking tours and architecture tours.
So no matter how much snow we get, don your hat and boots, and live in denial like the rest of us Chicagoans and stop to smell the flowers.
