River North will take center stage when it plays host to The Taste of River North in Erie Park this weekend. This debut fest aims to give weary art shoppers a taste of the best cuisine and culture River North has to offer -- all against the backdrop of the neighborhood's beautiful riverfront.
The festival takes place Saturday and Sunday at Erie Park (Kingsbury and Erie) and features two full days of area restaurants, art galleries, local merchants, live music, and a family fun area with pet activities.
Nine concerts are on tap including Saturday night's headliners, Chicago's own Occidental Brothers Dance Band International, with its Central and West African dance beats. The alt-rock soul sounds of Cracker will cap things off with a bang on Sunday.
The festival is open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There's a $5 suggested donation at the door and food and drink tickets are $1 each.
The Chi Guide: The Taste of River North will be one of the few street festivals in the city that offers a separate designated area for dog owners. DogFest takes place in the adjacent Erie dog park and offers "Ask a Vet" at a mobile veterinary clinic, pet adoption with the Anti-Cruelty Society, water cooling pools, a pet agility course, and games.
