Catch Chicago's Common battling the bad guys in "Terminator Salvation," in theaters this weekend.
Making the successful transition from the hip hop world to the big screen isn't that uncommon anymore -- see Will Smith and Ice Cube.
Is South Side rapper Common next? Judging by the movie roles he continues to pile up, that may be a safe bet.
Common has already appeared in the blockbuster American Gangster, and alongside fellow Chicagoan Jeremy Piven in "Smokin' Aces," and this weekend you'll be able to catch him in a high-profile role in "Terminator Salvation."
In a Sun-Times article, Common says his "Terminator" journey began on the South Side, sneaking into the Burnham Plaza Theater with friends to see the first movie in the series.
Now he's one of the characters on the big screen fighting the bad guys.
"To see this dude from the South Side of Chicago fighting to save John Connor, well, that's unfathomable. But then again, we're tough on the South Side. I've seen that kind of dude on my block in Chicago," Common says.
And better yet, now he can afford to buy his own tickets.
