NBC5's Nesita Kwan is an Emmy-winning anchor and reporter, and is currently the health editor at NBC5. She was the recipient of Emmy awards in both 2003 and 2005 for her NBC5 HealthWatch coverage.

 

Her career has taken her from covering Desert Storm in Norfolk, Va., to the oil fields of Houston, where she specialized in consumer affairs.

 

Kwan started her career at WINA radio in Charlottesville, Va., where her investigative report on liability insurance won an Associated Press award.

Kwan received a B.A. in English at the University of Virginia where she wrote for the Cavalier Daily newspaper and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi.

 

She is extremely active in community affairs.

 

Kwan was the past president of the Asian American Journalist's Association and on the board of the Chinese American Service League. She's worked closely with the Organization of Chinese Americans, Chinese Mutual Aid, and the Asian-American Institute.

 

In Spring of 2008, Kwan was selected for the University of Southern California's Health Journalism Fellowship. It's awarded to dedicated health journalists who are pioneering ways to tell complex healthcare stories, including use of the Internet.

 

In partnership with the University of Chicago and the Chicago sister cities program, Kwan helped create an international speakers series on journalism, as well as a Women's Day forum at the same event.

 

Her charitable work includes the March of Dimes,Y-Me, Red Moon Theater, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

 

Kwan has served as a mentor and sponsor at Lakeview High School.

 

Her health unit sponsors up to eight interns a year from universities and colleges around the world.

 

In her spare time, Kwan enjoys yoga, tennis, snowboarding, and she loves to cook. She also likes to read and travel.
