Former New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas was rushed to the hospital early Friday morning after he took roughly 10 sleeping pills.

Embattled former Knicks head coach Isiah Thomas was rushed from his home in Purchase, NY, early Friday morning to a nearby hospital after overdosing on sleeping pills, NBC News reports.

Harrison Police Chief David Hall refuse to identify the man.

"We’re classifying it as an accidental overdose of prescription sleeping pills," Hall added.

Thomas had reportedly consumed approximately 10 Lunesta pills, a prescription sleep aid, according to the New York Daily News.

"He was unconscious, but breathing on his own," Hall said. The patient was taken to White Plains Hospital where his stomach was pumped.

Contacted for a comment, Barry Watkins, vice president of communications for Madison Square Garden, would only tell The Journal News newspaper, "Isiah is fine."

Thomas' tenure in New York has been an extremely rough one. In his first season, the team went 33-49 and missed the playoffs. Things only got worse last year, with the team winning 10 fewer games.

More troubling still was the sexual harassment suit brought in the summer of 2007 against Thomas and the team over his treatment of a former executive, Anucha Browne Sanders. The team eventually had to shell out $11 million in an October settlement.

"I'm innocent, I'm very innocent, and I did not do the things she has accused me in this courtroom of doing" Thomas said after the decision.

Thomas was fired on April 18.

Those words you spewed against Mr. Thomas is horrific and you need to be careful of what you speak/write. It may come back on you or a loved one. May God help you with such hatred - this man has done nothing personal to you.
  • mur Friday, Dec 26 at 12:09 PM FLAG COMMENT it is obviously a suicide attempt. He needs help and support of those around him to cope. Condemnation will not help him, only encourage him to dig a deeper hole. I am always amazed how easily society will stone a person, yet fail to look at themselves and their character flaws. Now this is something we should each do. How easily influenced we all are. We love to judge.condemn and criticize others, even if we are guilty of ... MORE >
  • Faithful Fan Thursday, Dec 18 at 4:46 PM FLAG COMMENT Isiah was a great Coach in Indiana before he was let go due to past relationships and was still a great Coach in New York-Players should have some accountability-That's the problem with pro sports today-Players get paid and have no reason to do what the coaches ask them to do because the coach will go before they do.
  • Gary Sunday, Nov 30 at 8:37 AM FLAG COMMENT It is obvious that Isiah has some emotional problems that he tried t solve with this "acidental overdose of Lunesta. It is a given that Isiah can read and I am sure that there is no indicated dosage of ten of those pills.
  • JoJo Wednesday, Oct 29 at 8:49 AM FLAG COMMENT No one takes 10 Lunesta pills accidentally!!! He is an idiot and anyone who says that is was accidental is just as idiotic as he is!!!!! Morons
