Snow, “Frio” Postpone Sox Opener

Foul weather hasn't delayed a home opener since 1982

It's a snow delay and it hasn't happened in 26 years.

A lot of White Sox fans are sure to be disappointed, but much warmer sitting in their homes or offices instead of out there in the cold.

Today's season opener for the Chicago White Sox has been postponed because there's snow in the forecast.

Only a few of the White Sox braved the conditions for a brief workout Monday, while the grounds crew literally shoveled snow off the field.

Alexei Ramirez grabbed a snowball in his first-ever snow experience. He threw it, declaring "frio," with a smile.  Has he discovered a new training device?

The game between the Kansas City Royals and the Sox scheduled for Monday will be played Tuesday, with all opening day festivities to be held before the first pitch.

The decision to postpone this opener was made Sunday when snow, cold and high winds were forecasted for Monday.

It's the first time since 1982 -- when the first five games of the season were snowed out -- that the opener for the White Sox was postponed because of bad weather.
