Katie Kim

General Assignment Reporter

Katie Kim joined NBC 5 as a general assignment reporter in October 2014.

Before moving to Chicago, Katie spent four years in the Land of Enchantment, better known as Albuquerque, NM. She was an Emmy-nominated investigative reporter for the CBS-affiliate, KRQE-TV. There, she covered city and state politics, highlighted government waste and focused on data-driven reporting.

The move to the Windy City is a return to the Midwest for Katie. She started her career as a multi-media journalist at the NBC-affiliate, WILX-TV, in Lansing, MI.

Katie graduated from the University of Southern California with degrees in broadcast journalism and art history. She was born in Koreatown in Los Angeles. Her family still lives in the area. Katie is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.

When she's not working, Katie loves hiking, snowboarding, discovering new restaurants, visiting family and friends and FaceTiming with her one-year-old twin nephews. She is very excited to begin volunteering at Lurie Children's Hospital. Katie is loving life in Chicago, even in the winter!
