Family Discovers Tires Stolen From Vehicle, Ticket From City

A family in Lincoln Park said they discovered that all four tires were missing from their car Thursday morning. Even worse, the family found out it was ticketed for a street cleaning violation.

The ticket was placed on top of a note that police told the family to put on the car, saying that a crime had taken place, the family said.

A neighbor said that he saw two city employees riding by on bikes laughing about the disabled car.

Alderman Michele Smith said in a statement that the incident was “a clear example of a city employee adding insult to injury,” adding that the act “trains parking enforcement aides to issue tickets to vehicles for violating an ordinance” despite the condition of the vehicle.”

“Due to the circumstances of this issue and with knowledge that the tires were stolen overnight, the City is voiding this ticket," the statement added.
