NBC 5 Wins Gracie Award

NBC 5 Chicago investigative team honored in Outstanding Hard News Feature category

The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced Wednesday that NBC 5 Chicago’s investigative team won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature category.

NBC 5 investigative reporter Lisa Parker and producer Robin Green won for their work on "Kelsey’s Story," uncovering a loophole in the Illinois driver’s license permit program.

Current procedures do not screen for pending traffic violation court cases and allowed a teen to receive a driver’s license following an accident that seriously injured another teen.

As a result of Parker and Green’s story, Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White is proposing legislation to close this loophole and change the way first-time drivers in Illinois receive their licenses.

This will be the third Gracie Award win for Lisa Parker.  She has won over 15 Midwest Emmys, two Edward R. Murrow Regional RTNDA awards and several state and local broadcast awards.

Award winners will be presented their Gracie statues at the Gracie Awards Luncheon, to be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Hilton New York, in New York City.
