Matt Rodewald knows the Chicago roads inside and out as an Emmy Award-Winning reporter on NBC 5 News Today. Not only do you get a unique look at the daily traffic hassles and the most accurate travel times, Matt will also put his dancing shoes on for the weekly staple, Dance Friday.
He also continues to elevate the prep sports coverage in Chicago with the weekly feature "Prep Destination of the Week" and look for him as the host of high school state championships on the IHSA Television Network on NBC Chicago Nonstop (Digital 5.2, Comcast 341, RCN 50, WOW 130). Past contributions include play-by-play work for WKRS and WBIG in the Chicagoland suburbs and as the creator and executive producer of High School GameNight on ESPN Chicago.
Prior to joining the NBC 5 team in December 2006 as a fill-in reporter in SKY 5, Matt anchored traffic reports for a number of radio outlets including WTMX, WDRV, WLIV, WCPT, and 9FM. He also worked as the Weekend Traffic Anchor for CLTV News.
You can also hear Matt as an anchor and host for WSCR - 670 the Score. A decade of contributions to sports broadcasting have included stops as an Anchor/Reporter for ESPN Radio in Chicago and Indianapolis. Along the way, he's done work for the Chicago Tribune, Kane County Chronicle, Comcast Network and WBIG radio as well.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Journalism at Indiana University. While on campus, he served as an award-winning Sports Director at WIUS radio and prepared himself for a television career as an intern for NBC13 in Indianapolis.
At NBC 5, Matt has earned a total of eight Emmy nominations for his reporting, his involvement with the NBC 5 special broadcasts for the Chicago Auto Show and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and also for Dance Friday. "The Sign Says...," a thoughtful look at the people behind the scenes and the process of making the highway signs we see everyday, took home an Emmy award in 2011.
Matt grew up in far west suburban Geneva. He and his wife Lindy are enjoying their first year of marriage in their new home in north suburban Vernon Hills.
