Man Loses Finger After Trying to Blast Away Wart with Shotgun

There have been worse ideas, though none come to mind.

A British man tried to rid himself of a painful wart by shooting it off with a shotgun, and ended up losing said wart as well as the finger it was perched on. To add insult to injury, 38-year-old, a security guard, now faces possible prison time for illegal possession of a firearm, according to the Telegraph.

Murphy wound up with a suspended sentence of 16 weeks, but he could have gotten as much as 15 years in prison.

"My solicitor did a very good job," a contrite Murphy told the paper. The lawyer,Richard Haigh, told the Telegraph that Murphy had been "a victim of his own stupidity when domestic pressures got to him."

Still, one doesn't get the idea Murphy completely learned his lesson. He told his hometown Yorktown Post, "The best thing is that the wart has gone. It was giving me a lot of trouble."

Murphy anesthetized himself with his favorite adult beverage, but he didn't blame the bitter for his lousy shooting.

"I didn't expect to lose my finger as well when I shot it but the gun recoiled and that was it," he said. "The wart was gone and so was most of my finger. There was nothing left, so no chance to re-attach it."
