Hoops Fan Arrested by Ref Who Wears Badge

A high school basketball referee did more than just call a foul when a fan rushed from the stands and confronted him.

The ref is also an Indiana State Trooper and he arrested the fan on charges of battery and resisting arrest.

Patrick Rempala, 64, of Michigan City, was arrested by Trooper Glen Fifield after the boy's game at Washington Township High School in Porter County on Friday.

Police said Rempala rushed from the stands after Washington Township beat Michigan City Marquette 32-31 and confronted the referees, screaming "you suck."

When he learned that the ref was also an officer, Rempala reportedly said, "That's not fair."

Rempala couldn't immediately be reached for comment
