An Australian forklifter operator made a $1 million mistake, dropping nearly 500 cases of expensive wine.
The 2010 Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz, which goes for about $200 a bottle, was destined for the U.S. when it crashed to the loading dock floor, according to the Herald Sun. The entire lot, about one-third of the annual production for ventnor Sparky Narquis, was lost.
"We just couldn't believe it," said Marquis, who is hoping insurance pays for the loss. "This wine is our pride and joy, so to see it accidentally destroyed, and not consumed, has left us all a bit numb."
The winery's website touted the 2010 vintage, saying above-average rainfall brought he harvest to "peak potential.
"We think that 2010 is easily our best vintage yet," the site boasted.
