White Sox, Bulls Could Soon Be Left Without Radio Home

The Chicago Bulls and White Sox could soon be left without a radio home as Cumulus Media has announced plans to cancel long-term contracts with both teams.

The news came on Friday morning as the company continues to go through bankruptcy proceedings, according to Chicago media reporter Robert Feder. The teams, whose games air on WLS-AM in Chicago, later confirmed the news in a joint statement, and said they are pursuing an "amicable solution" to the issue.

"The teams remain confident in fidning a radio broadcast solution for their fans and, together, the Bulls and White Sox are exploring all options for a new radio home," the teams said in a statement.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court is scheduled to rule on the status of Cumulus’ contracts on Feb. 1. It's unclear if that means the White Sox would need to look for a new station for the 2018 season, or if the Bulls could potentially be left without a radio home for the remainder of their 2017-18 season, but what is clear is that the teams' long term contracts with the station are certainly in jeopardy.

According to Feder’s report, Cumulus will also be looking to cancel contracts to buy WKQX 101.1 and WLUP 97.9 on the FM dial.

Previously, White Sox games had aired on 670 the Score on the AM dial, but the Chicago Cubs are now locked into a contract with the station. The Sox have also aired in the past on ESPN 1000, who currently holds no deals with local professional teams.

The Bulls also aired on ESPN 1000 in the past before signing their current deal with WLS.

The Chicago Blackhawks can currently be heard on WGN 720 AM, and the Chicago Bears air games on WBBM 780 AM.
