Avisail Garcia Opts for Salary Arbitration With White Sox

The Chicago White Sox avoided salary arbitration with four different players on Friday, including infielder Jose Abreu, but they were unable to come to an agreement with outfielder Avisail Garcia.

Garcia, who made his first All-Star team during the 2017 season, hit 18 home runs and drove in 80 RBI for the White Sox, both of which were career highs. According to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman, Garcia is asking for $6.7 million in salary arbitration, while the White Sox are offering him $5.85 million.

Infielder Yolmer Sanchez also remains unsigned, although both players can still negotiate new contracts with the White Sox even though arbitration numbers have been exchanged.

The White Sox did sign four players to new contracts, including Abreu, who will receive $13 million next season. Abreu batted .304 with 33 home runs and 102 RBI for the White Sox, and continued his remarkably consistent play through the first four years of his career.

Luis Avilan also signed a new deal with the White Sox, agreeing to a $2.45 million contract. Avilan, acquired in a recent trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, went 2-3 with a 2.93 ERA and 52 strikeouts last season.

The White Sox also inked new contracts with pitcher Carlos Rodon ($2.3 million) and Leury Garcia ($1.175 million).
