White Sox Activate Putnam, Tilson From 60-Day DL

The Chicago White Sox made a few house-cleaning roster moves on Thursday as they activated pitcher Zach Putnam and outfielder Charlie Tilson from the 60-day disabled list.

Putnam, who only appeared in seven games this season for the White Sox, put up a 1.04 ERA and struck out nine batters in those appearances. He underwent Tommy John surgery in June, so he won’t be able to pitch for the White Sox until the end of next season at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Tilson suffered a slew of injuries, including a hamstring strain and a stress fracture in his ankle, and despite numerous setbacks he’s hoping that he can contribute to the team at some point in the near future.

The White Sox also announced that catcher Geovany Soto declined his 2018 contract with the team, making him an unrestricted free agent. Soto only appeared in 13 games for the White Sox last season, hitting three home runs and driving in nine RBI with the team in 48 plate appearances.

According to the White Sox, the team now has 34 players on its 40-man roster, giving them some room to maneuver as free agency looms in the coming weeks.
