Soldier Field Named as Host Site for 2019 Gold Cup

Soldier Field hosted the Gold Cup Final in 2013

World-class soccer will make its way back to Soldier Field next summer as the stadium has been named as a host site for the Gold Cup tournament.

The stadium, which last hosted Gold Cup games in 2015 and the 2013 Final of the tournament, was not included in the rotation in the 2017 edition of the event.

“Soccer is a global sport and Chicago is the ideal global city to once again host the Concacaf Gold Cup,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the expanded tournament, including the United States, as they’ve already qualified for the tournament. Costa Rica and Mexico have also qualified for the tournament, and the remaining 10 spots will be decided in November 2018 and March 2019.

Los Angeles, Phoenix, Philadelphia, and Denver were among the other cities listed as sites for the tournament, which will take place in June 2019.
