The Chicago Cubs gave championship rings to just about everyone connected to the organization after they won the World Series last year, but according to Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, they even gave rings to people no longer affiliated with the team.

In a wide-ranging interview with USA Today, Reinsdorf discussed his admiration for Ozzie Guillen and his desire to bring a championship back to the South Side, and he also revealed that the Cubs ponied up for a championship ring for a prominent White Sox employee: manager Rick Renteria.

“I thought it was pretty classy of them,” Reinsdorf told the newspaper.

Renteria was named the Cubs’ manager for the 2014 season, but he was relieved of his duties when the team hired Joe Maddon following the campaign.

Despite his abrupt ouster, Reinsdorf says that Renteria never complained about his former employer.

“This guy is such a gentleman, even after he was fired, he never said anything about the Cubs. Not one time. He just won’t do it,” he said.

The Cubs also gave World Series rings to former G.M. Jim Hendry, who piloted the team to back-to-back division titles in 2007 and 2008, and to former manager Dale Sveum, who was hired by Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer before the 2012 season and was dismissed in 2013.
