Suburban-Native Emery Lehman Makes Olympic Team

The Chicago area has another Olympian to call its own on Sunday night, as Emery Lehman will be heading to his second Olympic Games.

Lehman, who also competed in the 2014 Games in Sochi, will head to PyeongChang as a pursuit specialist, competing in the Mass Start competition at this year’s Olympics.

“I’ve been on pins and needles,” he told USA Speedskating. “You never really know until the weekend is over, so I knew I still had to come out and race really well.”

Lehman competed in the 5000 and 10,000 meter events in Sochi, and will be joined by two other skaters for the Mass Start Event. Florida’s Joey Mantia made the team, as did Glenview-native Brian Hansen, who already punched his ticket to PyeongChang by qualifying for the 1500 meter race.

Local speedskater Shani Davis qualified in two events, as he will compete in the 1000 and 1500 meter races in PyeongChang.
