Sports writer Jay Mariotti, known in Chicago for picking fights with people like Hawk Harrelson and Ozzie Guillen, won't face charges for an alleged fight with his girlfriend.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday declined to pursue charges from his arrest last month, according to the the Beverly Hills Courier.

Mariotti, 51, was arrested on Aug. 21 after a fight with his girlfriend that started at a night club and continued at the couple's apartment, police said.

Witnesses told the L.A. Times they started arguing after he said she was flirting with another man. Police later took him into custody around 4:30 am. He was released on $50,000 bond that same morning.

It's unclear how the incident might affect his future as a sports writer. AOL suspended him from writing on Fanhouse.com pending the investigation. He has not appeared as a contributor on ESPN's "Around the Horn," since his arrest.
