Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito added another remarkable performance to his 2019 highlight reel on Wednesday, throwing a complete game shutout against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
Giolito allowed just three hits, struck out 12 batters and walked none as he improved his record on the season to 14-6. He threw 115 pitches in the shutout, and dropped his ERA to 3.20.
José Abreu had three hits and drove in a pair of runs in the victory, and Matt Skole drove in a run with an RBI single in the first inning of the contest.
Leury García and Tim Anderson each collected a pair of hits in the win.
The White Sox staked Giolito to an early lead in the first inning, scoring a pair of runs in the opening frame. Abreu smacked an RBI single to left field to score García, and Skole followed it up with an RBI single of his own to right, driving in Tim Anderson to put the White Sox ahead 2-0.
Abreu extended the lead in the third inning with another RBI single, then scored a run in the fifth on a wild pitch by Twins pitcher Jake Odorizzi to make it a 4-0 contest.
That was all the run support Giolito needed. In the eighth inning Jonathan Schoop doubled to left field in the eighth, but Giolito slammed the door as he struck out Jason Castro and Jake Cave to end the scoring threat.

In the ninth, Giolito notched his 11th strikeout when he punched out Max Kepler, and after inducing a popout from Jorge Polanco he struck out Nelson Cruz to end the game and preserve his shutout victory.
After taking two out of three from the Twins, the White Sox will head home for the first game of a four-game series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday night.
