Kris Bryant Leaves Cubs Game With Ankle Injury

Bryant was hurt while running to first base in the third inning of Sunday's game

Things just keep going from bad to worse for the Chicago Cubs, as third baseman Kris Bryant was forced to leave Sunday’s game after suffering an ankle injury while running the bases.

Bryant was trying to get to first base on a ground ball in the third inning of the contest when he appeared to slip on the first base bag, rolling his right ankle and tumbling to the ground:

Bryant had to be helped off the field by teammate Anthony Rizzo, and he was removed from the game. Ian Happ came into the contest to play third base for the Cubs.

The Cubs announced that Bryant had suffered a sprained right ankle on the play, but X-rays were negative, according to the team.

The Cubs are already dealing with several injured players, including Rizzo, who is still dealing with a sprained ankle, and Javier Báez, who has a hairline fracture in his thumb.
