Kris Bryant Makes History With Home Runs Sunday

Bryant is now the Cubs' all-time leader in home runs hit in a player's first five career seasons

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant has done some remarkable things in his MLB career, and he added another incredible milestone to that list on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Bryant, currently playing in his fifth big league season, hit the 137th home run of his career on Sunday, and that moved him into sole possession of the team’s record for most home runs hit in the first five years of a career.

The home run broke a tie with Cubs legend Ernie Banks, who hit 136 home runs from 1953 to 1957 for the Cubs. Bryant did have the benefit of more games played (today marks the 699th game of his career, while Banks appeared in 613 during his first five seasons), but it still is a remarkable feat in the history of the franchise.

For good measure, Bryant hit a second home run later in the game, further pushing along his record.

Kyle Schwarber is currently in third place on the list, with 107 home runs in his first five seasons with the Cubs.
