Jonathan Toews Out Thursday vs. Canucks, Quenneville Says

Toews had appeared in all 74 games for the Blackhawks this season

The Chicago Blackhawks were eliminated from the postseason on Tuesday night, but they’ll be without one of their top players as they embark on their final stretch of games.

According to Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, captain Jonathan Toews will not be on the ice when the team takes on the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, and he will likely miss “a few games” as he deals with an upper body injury.

“We’ll re-evaluate him next week,” Quenneville said.

Toews has played in all 74 games of the Blackhawks’ games this season, but he will not be able to play in all 82 games this season thanks to the injury, which he suffered late in Tuesday night’s game.

With Toews out of the lineup, Nick Schmaltz jumped up to the team’s top line, skating with Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane. Brandon Saad was dropped to the third line with Vincent Hinostroza and Matthew Highmore.
