Joe Maddon Doesn't Mince Words After Willson Contreras' Non-Home Run

The Chicago Cubs lost to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon, and the one play that had everyone talking didn’t sit well with manager Joe Maddon.

That play came on a fly ball off the bat of Willson Contreras as the Cubs were trying to get back into the contest. Contreras lofted the ball high to center field, and stood at home plate to admire the blast, but the ball ended up coming up short of the bleachers, bouncing off the wall for a long double.

After the game, Maddon didn’t mince words, criticizing Contreras’ decision-making.

“Horrible. I didn’t like that at all, and that will be addressed,” he said. “The whole team didn’t like that.”

Contreras was seen in the dugout after the hit apologizing to teammates, and it was an unfortunate turn of events for the Cubs, as a home run would have tied the game.

"What I did was not good for baseball," Contreras said. "A lot of people are watching me and they've been really hard on me. At first, I thought it was gone and I kinda walked then I started running hard. That was bad on my side."
