Governors State Unveils New Mascot

School officials said they received more than 30,000 online votes

Governors State University in suburban Chicago has chosen its first mascot -- the Jaguars.

The University Park school said the new name and mascot, unveiled Tuesday, will be used when it begins intercollegiate play this fall.

The new logo features an orange and black jaguar superimposed over a claw mark. The school decided on the mascot after a search that started in February and included input from faculty, staff, students and the community.

The Jaguars was one of four finalists that the school put up for an online vote. School officials said they received more than 30,000 online votes.
