Eddie Olczyk to Call Blackhawks' Games This Week

For fans of Chicago Blackhawks broadcaster Eddie Olczyk, we have some really good news for you.

On Wednesday, Olczyk will be back in the booth as the Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues in a nationally televised game. The contest, which will air on NBCSN, will feature the Central Division rivals duking it out for on-ice supremacy, but more importantly, it will be Olczyk’s first game back in the booth since being diagnosed with colon cancer over the summer.

“Three treatments in, nine to go,” Olczyk told USA Today Sports. “We’re a quarter of the way into the race and we are grinding it out.”

Olczyk will also be back on Chicago-area television this week, as he will join Pat Foley to call the Blackhawks’ game against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

The commentator says that he is not making a full-time return to the booth, but will call games when he is feeling well enough to do so. He is still undergoing chemotherapy treatments for colon cancer, and it has not been announced when he will be back in the booth on a full-time basis.

Olczyk did appear on TV during a recent Blackhawks game, reuniting with Foley in an emotional embrace during the intermission of a game at the United Center.

Wednesday’s game will take place at 7 p.m., and Thursday’s contest will air at 7:30 p.m. on WGN.
