Just before the beginning of spring training, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly made a huge splash on the free agent market.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs have agreed to a six-year contract with starting pitcher Yu Darvish. The deal will reportedly pay Darvish $126 million, and with incentives could go as high as $150 million, and will become official when the hurler undergoes his physical.

Darvish posted a 3.86 ERA in 31 starts with the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He struck out 209 batters in 186.2 innings, and posted a 1.16 WHIP on the year. 

According to multiple reports, both the Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers were in the mix for Darvish, but the hurler ended up choosing Chicago as his destination. 

The Cubs' rotation, already stacked up fairly well for the coming year, is now unquestionably one of the best in baseball, as Darvish joins fellow acquisition Tyler Chatwood in joining a strong group that includes Jon Lester, Jose Quintana, and Kyle Hendricks.
