Cubs Set New Franchise Record With Sunday Win

With their 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, the Cubs set a new all-time single season record for wins at Wrigley.

The Chicago Cubs finished their 100th regular season at Wrigley Field on Sunday, but even after a century at the Friendly Confines, the team had never won 57 games in a single season at the iconic ballpark.

Until now.

With their 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, the Cubs set a new all-time single season record for wins at Wrigley, recording a 57-24 record at the venerable stadium this season.

The team’s previous record had been 56 wins, but thanks to a David Ross home run and a dominant pitching performance from Jon Lester, the team was able to set a new mark in what has already been an historic season.

The Cubs swept a staggering 10 series at the Friendly Confines this season en route to their remarkable record, including a four-game sweep over the playoff-bound Washington Nationals earlier in the year.

The team will hope to continue the home-cooking when the postseason rolls around, as they’ve already secured home-field advantage throughout the National League playolfs.
