Golf Carts Torched in Morton Grove

Each golf cart cost about $3,000, officials said

Forty-five carts from a northwest suburban golf course were torched in what investigators said Wednesday was a case of arson.

The general manager of Chick Evans Golf Course, at 6145 Golf Rd., in Morton Grove, locked up the pro shop at about 8:20 p.m. Monday only to come back about 30 minutes later to find the fire, Cook County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sophia Ansari said.

Chick Evans Golf Course is owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve.

Investigators said preliminary information suggest someone used tiki torches to ignite and destroy the golf carts.

In all, 45 carts were destroyed, each with a value of about $3,000. Investigators said the fire was no accident.

Anyone with information should call authorities at 708-865-4896. A $5,000 reward has been put up for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
