Castillo, Youngsters Lead White Sox Past Mariners

The Chicago White Sox put some big talent on display Saturday afternoon in Peoria against the Seattle Mariners, but it was their substitutes that did the heavy lifting in a 5-3 win over the M’s.

Welington Castillo did notch an RBI in the game, and Tyler Saladino collected a pair of hits, but it was a Jake Burger triple and an RBI double by Luis Alex Basabe that led the White Sox to the exhibition victory.

The Sox got on the board first in the fourth inning when Castillo lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Nicky Delmonico to give the team a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners struck back in the bottom of the frame with three runs, as Andrew Romine drove in former White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham and Mike Marjama to put Seattle ahead 3-1.

The Sox would go on to score the next four runs, as Delmonico notched a sacrifice fly of his own to score Adam Engel in the fifth inning. Basabe laced a double to center field in the eighth inning to score Jacob May, and Jose Rondon flew out to center, scoring Burger to give the Sox their final margin of victory.

Hector Santiago gave up five hits in just two innings of work, but he was able to work through it without issue as he gave up no runs and struck out a batter.
