Cubs' Top Prospect Adbert Alzolay Done for Season

Alzolay has been dealing with a lat injury

Chicago Cubs G.M. Jed Hoyer gave fans some bad news on Friday night, as top prospect Adbert Alzolay has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Alzolay, ranked as the top prospect in the Cubs' system by MLB Pipeline and other publications, fired four perfect innings in a start last month, but had to come out of the game with a lat injury.

The hurler was resting the injury in Arizona, but the team has decided to pull the plug on the remainder of his season, as he won't be healed in enough time to pitch again in 2018.

According to Hoyer, no surgery will be required on the injury.

In eight starts with the Triple-A Iowa club this season, Alzolay had a 4.76 ERA and had struck out 27 batters in 39.2 innings of work.
