Chicago Cubs to Send Kyle Schwarber to Minor Leagues

One of the Chicago Cubs' biggest heroes from the 2016 World Series championship run is heading back to the minor leagues, the team confirmed.

Kyle Schwarber, who began the season as the Cubs' lead-off hitter, will be sent down to triple-A Iowa on Thursday. The outfielder, who is batting .171 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI, has struggled at the plate all season and will be sent down to work on his approach and mechanics.

Another outfielder will also be off for a little while, as Jason Heyward will be placed on the disabled list, according to reports. Heyward injured his hand diving for a catch in Sunday's game against the Pirates, and he will sit to let the injury heal.

The Cubs will call up pitcher Dylan Floro and outfielder Mark Zagunis to replace Heyward and Schwarber on the 25-man roster.

The Cubs begin another road trip on Thursday when they battle the Miami Marlins.
