Cubs Rainout vs. Cardinals Ties MLB Record

The Chicago Cubs won’t be playing a game on Wednesday, but they still helped to tie a major league record.

According to the Associated Press, the rained out game between the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals is the 25th weather-related cancellation in baseball this month, tying the all-time record for most cancellations in the first month of the MLB season.

Records have been kept for rainouts since 1986, according to MLB, and this year’s total tied the mark of 25 set during the 2007 season.

Wednesday’s game is the fifth that has been cancelled for the Cubs already this season. The team had a game postponed against the Cincinnati Reds on April 3, and has already had four games called off during their current homestand.

They will make up Wednesday’s game on Thursday afternoon against the Cardinals.
