Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez had a remarkable season, but it wasn’t enough to take home the hardware as Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich was picked as the National League MVP on Thursday night.

Baez finished in second place in the voting, capturing 19 second-place votes among the 30 eligible voters for the award. The infielder led the National League in RBI this season with 111, and hit 34 home runs and batted .290, all of which were career highs.

The infielder was one of only four National League players to be named on every ballot, joining Yelich, Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman.

Yelich was a nearly unanimous selection, earning 29 of the 30 available first place votes. He hit 36 home runs, drove in 110 RBI, and batted a league-leading .326 in his first season with the Brewers.

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom, who won the National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday night, captured the other first place vote, and finished in fifth place in balloting.
