Javier Baez Joins Exclusive Company With Incredible First Half

Baez has 19 home runs and 72 RBI at the break

Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez has wowed the baseball world with his strong first half of the season, but the exclusive company that season has landed him in may surprise you.

Baez, who will make his first All-Star Game appearance this week after hitting .292 with 19 home runs and 72 RBI in the season’s first half, will head to Washington after accomplishing something truly remarkable.

According to Mike Garrigan of WFIR Rockford, Baez is only the second player in MLB history to rack up at least 18 doubles, 18 home runs, 18 stolen bases, and five triples before the MLB All-Star break.

The only other player in history to accomplish that feat? The legendary San Francisco Giants outfielder Willie Mays, who did it in 1960.

Baez’s strong start has helped the Cubs to the National League’s best record at the break, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2008. They lead the Milwaukee Brewers by two and a half games in the standings at the season’s unofficial halfway point.
