Bulls: Derrick Rose “Unlikely” to Play vs. Pistons

Rose has expressed optimism about his recovery from this recent knee surgery but didn’t want to commit himself to any return date

It's "unlikely" Derrick Rose will take to the court when the Chicago Bulls host the Detroit Pistons Friday night at the United Center, head coach Tom Thibodeau said.

"He’s not going to be at where he was when he left off and anybody’s who’s missed that amount of time is normal protocol,” Thibodeau said Thursday. "We’ll see when he’s ready to go."

How much he plays when he does return to the game also remains in the air.

"He’s got to play well when he’s out there," the coach said, according to CSN Chicago. "You can’t leave him out there if he’s not playing well. You've got to make sure he’s playing well."

Rose expressed optimism about his recovery from this recent knee surgery but didn’t want to commit himself to any return date.

The star player tore the meniscus in his right knee during a game in Feburary. It was his third knee injury while a member of the Bulls. He tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2012 NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76’ers, and the injury cost him the entire 2012-13 season. The second injury came when he tore the meniscus in his right knee last November, and he missed the rest of the 2013-14 season while recovering.
