Prior to their game on Monday night against the Washington Redskins, the Chicago Bears made a roster move, waiving tight end Bradley Sowell and signing defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson from the practice squad.
The move comes as the Bears prepare to play without defensive lineman Bilal Nichols, who will miss this week’s game after breaking his hand against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Matt Nagy doesn’t believe the injury will require him to be placed on injured reserve, but he’ll be on the shelf for at least this week.
Sowell, who was moved to tight end after playing the first seven seasons of his NFL career as an offensive tackle, appeared in both Bears games but played a limited number of snaps. In the Bears’ win over the Broncos Sowell wasn’t used as an extra blocker as he had been in previous games, a sign the team had decided to go in a different direction.
Anderson has not appeared in an NFL game, meaning he could potentially make his debut on Monday against the Redskins. He was cut by the team earlier this month, but had been signed to their practice squad.
