The Chicago White Sox want to pile up big numbers on offense, not on defense.

The last-place White Sox committed four errors and trailed by four runs before they scored in their 9-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

"We're going to have to start putting up some crooked numbers in the run column to be able to sustain anything," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said.

The White Sox had two miscues in the first inning and two more in the four-run seventh as their four-game winning streak ended. Chicago was trying to sweep the Orioles for the first time since 2005.

"Let's face it, they helped us a lot today and normally they wouldn't," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "We were fortunate to take advantage of it."

Jonathan Schoop homered in his first at-bat since coming off the disabled list and Miguel Gonzalez threw six solid innings as the Orioles snapped a three-game losing streak.

Adam Jones had two doubles and Steve Pearce had three hits for Baltimore.

Schoop was activated from the 60-day DL before the game after being sidelined by a sprained right knee. He hit a solo homer in the second inning off Carlos Rodon (3-2), Schoop's first home run in the majors since April 15.

Gonzalez (7-5) allowed four hits, struck out three and walked one.

Chris Davis and Pearce hit RBI singles in the seventh before the Orioles loaded the bases on reliever Dan Jennings' wild throw to second. A run scored on second baseman Carlos Sanchez misplayed a potential double-play grounder, and another run scored on a groundout.

"Even the greats make errors," Rodon said. "And it happens. You got to bear down. You got to get guys out, pick up your teammates."

The Orioles went ahead in the first after two errors on the same play. Third baseman Conor Gillaspie fumbled the ball and made a wild throw on Nolan Reimold's grounder and Jones snapped a 0-for-11 slump with an RBI double.

Davis was robbed of a home run for the second straight game. J.B. Shuck caught his long flyball at the wall in left field in the eighth. A run scored on the sacrifice fly.

Avisail Garcia caught a drive by Davis in right field in the ninth Saturday.

Melky Cabrera hit an RBI double in the Chicago sixth but was thrown out trying to extend it to a triple.

"It just puts too much on the pitching staff to feel like they have to go out every night and win 1-0," Ventura said. "Offensively, we've got to start knocking in some guys when they're in scoring position."
